SIMA - Extension of the investigation respecting certain copper pipe fittings

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has, today, extended the investigation with respect to the alleged injurious dumping of certain solder joint pressure pipe fittings and solder joint drainage, waste and vent pipe fittings, made of cast copper alloy, wrought copper alloy or wrought copper, for use in heating, plumbing, air conditioning and refrigeration applications (certain copper pipe fittings) originating in or exported from the United States of America, the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China and an investigation into the alleged subsidizing of certain copper pipe fittings originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China.

Pursuant to paragraphs 39(1)(a) and (b) of the Special Import Measures Act, the President of the CBSA extended the 90-day period for making a preliminary decision, pertaining to all or part of the investigation, to 135 days, due to the complexity and novelty of the issues presented by the investigation and the variety of goods and number of persons involved in the investigation. Consequently, a preliminary decision pertaining to all or part of the investigation will be made on or before October 20, 2006.
