Tobacco smuggling

Criminals attempt to smuggle hundreds of tonnes of tobacco into Canada annually with the proceeds being funneled into further criminal activity. These tobacco products can be even more harmful than legitimate products. Learn about the risks that smuggled tobacco products can pose to our communities. The Canada Border Services Agency is helping to keep our communities safe.

Did you know that in the last year, 659,921 kilograms of undeclared tobacco products were intercepted at ports of entry across Canada? That's millions of dollars in potential evaded taxes.

Smuggled tobacco can be used to make illegal cigarettes. Proceeds from this underground smuggling industry are funnelled back into other criminal elements, directly supporting organized crime with the purchase and transportation of narcotics, firearms and even people!

We work diligently to stop the smuggling of tobacco, but you can help too by spreading the word about the harm that these products can have on our communities.
