Government of Canada signs agreement with
Rivière Rouge/Mont Tremblant International Airport

Ottawa, Ontario, June 18, 2008 -- The Minister of Public Safety, the Honourable Stockwell Day, today announced that the Government of Canada has just entered into a new agreement with the Rivière Rouge/Mont Tremblant International airport that will include publicly funded border clearance to passengers and their luggage.

"Providing border clearance services to the Rivière Rouge/Mont Tremblant International airport will allow the airport to be more competitive by attracting more international flights," said Minister Day. "This investment of approximately $100,000 recognizes that the development of small airports contributes to economic prosperity."

The agreement with the Rivière Rouge/Mont Tremblant International airport states that clearance services will apply to winter chartered flights and that any additional requirement for service will be provided on a cost recovery basis. In addition, the Rivière Rouge/Mont Tremblant International airport has agreed to repay any outstanding cost recovery fees owed to the Government.

"Publicly funding border services to this airport recognizes the value of the tourism industry in this region," concluded Minister Day.

An overall review of core services is ongoing. In the meantime, as further options are considered and decisions are made, the Government of Canada will continue to offer a service delivery approach that is fair, transparent and flexible.
