Minister Day applauds the Canada Border Services Agency for large weapons seizure

May 23, 2008 (Ottawa) -- Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released the following statement in response to news that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), in conjunction with the RCMP’s National Weapons Enforcement Support Team and Halifax Regional Police, seized a variety of assault weapons from a home and storage locker in Halifax.

"This significant seizure is another example of our government’s unwavering commitment to tackling crime and further testimony to the vigilance of our CBSA officers as well as other law enforcement officers when it comes to protecting the health and safety of Canadians. Thanks to the diligence of our CBSA and law enforcement officers, these illegal weapons have been seized and will be kept off our streets.

On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to thank the CBSA and the other law enforcement agencies involved for another successful operation and for their dedication to fighting crime and keeping our communities safe."
